Some people may believe that the new year is the time to completely overhaul their lives and set impossible goals that they will inevitably fail to achieve. However, the new year is an excellent time to look back on your accomplishments, assess what you could have done better, and set realistic goals for the coming year. This way, you can stay on track throughout the year while still allowing yourself some room to breathe. When you're working on a goal, it's all too easy to get sidetracked. It's natural for your mind to wander or for you to begin taking shortcuts, especially if your goal is big and long-term. Since a year consists of 365 days, and within that time frame, there will be times that you’ll stumble and lose track of your goals. However, the only way to achieve anything worthwhile is to stay focused and tuned in.
So how can you stay focused and tuned in with your fitness goals?
- Engage with like-minded people. It's challenging to transition from black to white when you first begin to make a change. As a result, you must surround yourself with people who have goals and want to make a difference. Spend time with people who live the lifestyle you want to live. Make sure the people you connect with are positive, supportive, and have similar interests. You can team up and support each other through the ups and downs of getting in shape by finding like-minded people who share your fitness goals. You'll not only have someone to work out with, but you'll also have someone who understands your struggles and can offer advice.
- Schedule your workout like an appointment. How many times have you said, "I'll work out tomorrow," and then never followed through? If you're like most people, the answer is probably "a lot." But if you schedule your workouts like appointments, you're more likely to go. By treating your workout like an important meeting, you'll be less likely to cancel on yourself. And the best part is that by making it a regular habit, working out will start to feel less like a chore and more like something fun and rewarding. You would want to show up for yourself, and going to your workouts is just as important as seeing the doctor. You can set the alarm on your phone or make a reminder on your calendar or some post-it note and stick it on your walls for you not to forget. When you schedule your workout like an appointment with yourself, it will become much more accessible and far more enjoyable. Schedule these important things for yourself because your health and wellness are priorities.
- Share stories on social media. Social media has become an important part of our lives. We use it to stay connected with friends and family, share news and experiences, and find out what's happening in the world. With the negativities circulating around, it doesn't need all politics and COVID information. Instead, share some bright and positive things on your social media. What you're proud of yourself, what you've done and how far you've come. Share the progress of your fitness goals. It's also a great tool for staying motivated and focused. One biggest things you can do is have a transformation picture. Sharing your fitness journey helps create accountability and makes you more visible to others who may help and support you. Seeing the changes in your body over time is such an incredible motivator, and it can be inspiring for others too. So go ahead and post away – just make sure you also put in the hard work necessary to reach your goals!
- Get clear on your WHYs. Knowing your purpose and understanding your WHYs are two of the most important aspects of fitness. Assess yourself and respond to the deeper reason for your fitness goals. What motivates you to make this change? What's the real reason for it? What will change in your life? What will happen to you emotionally and mentally? Because if your motivation is only superficial, you are not setting yourself up for success, and your goals are unlikely to last. For your fitness goals to last in the long run, it’s crucial to have a specific purpose or intent in mind when you start working out. Many people try to get fit without any clear idea of what they want to achieve, and eventually, they give up because they don’t see any progress. But if you know your purpose, you can stay focused and motivated through the highs and lows of getting in shape.
