In your twenties and thirties, you may feel like you can take on the world. But as you get older, you may find that you are not quite as strong as you used to be. You start to slow down, you can't do the things you used to, and your health starts to decline.
Kristina Marquez had the same issue before joining True Core. She noticed that she was becoming weaker as she grew older, as she was doing cardio five times a week. Another issue she was dealing with was that she was underweight and didn't like how she looked. She'd like to say it was mostly about how she felt but also about how she looked. Kristina considered herself to be "thin but out of shape." As Kristina tried to solve the problem independently, she felt frustrated because her mindset of what she was capable of changed after several months. And then it took coming back again and again.
As Kristina had her first pull-up happen at True Core, her first double under, and the snatch, she saw muscles in her quads, and her arms were stronger. Kristina was doing bedside nursing at the time, and this new strength was a game-changer for her. She was lifting, turning, and assisting patients with no soreness. Kristina felt like she’s a new person. Her journey this time is much different because she felt that she found her “sport.” Kristina likes coming back each day to train with her team. Of course, with days off, rest and recovery are also important. She sleeps better. She eats better because she craves healthier foods after an intense workout. Kristina is much more confident with herself as she likes how her jeans fit. She has confidence that she has never had before. The confidence of feeling and looking strong is something she has never experienced. Now it also influences her daughters, which makes her so proud.
Being part of True Core impacts Kristina’s life in so many ways. She jokes with her husband that she likes going to church. She is working out for her body and mind and sees people she genuinely cares about and loves. People she has watched go through joys and struggles, and these same people have watched Kristina do the same. To be there for each other is a gift, and it is just as much about community as it is being fit. Kristina is truly grateful that she has this in her life.
Our bodies indeed slow down with age, but we can still keep up if we use some creativity in training and what exercises we do. Kristina never thought she would get this strong while having so much fun, and it is everything she needs in her life right now. The fitness, the people, the competition, and the time away from her home. Thus, age should not prevent us from staying fit; there are plenty of ways for people at all stages of life to work out without feeling like they're starting over again every time they try something new or face a difficult task.
