Happiness can be a powerful tool. Countless studies have shown that happy and content people tend to live longer, healthier lives than those who aren't. What is it about happiness that makes such a big difference? How can we use it to create lasting change in our lives?
True Core believes that in terms of health and wellness, one shouldn’t just treat the body. If you only try to treat the body, you might just get short-term results. Instead, we must treat the mind and the spirit to make lasting change. Most people would agree that having content and happy life is much more appealing than the alternative. After all, who wouldn’t want to be happy? But what many people don’t realize is that the two are intertwined; contentment is a key ingredient to happiness. And happiness is the key to a lasting change.
Oftentimes individuals think just because you haven't reached a specific point of success that you’re striving for, means you can't be pleased with the progress that you're making towards that point. We all want happiness, but happiness isn’t just a result of achieving success; it is something you could choose, no matter your circumstances. Believe it or not, this is true.
Success doesn’t always equate to happiness. We often chase success to feel happier, only to realize that it doesn’t quite do the trick. Happiness is pretty much the ultimate goal, but things are impermanent. They come and go; you can feel joy, moment to moment, or irritability. The absence of joy can leave us feeling unhappy, and then we question everything on where we went wrong. We’ll get discouraged with ourselves, and so on. However, if we take a moment to pause and reflect, we might see that we are content with life. And it's okay to be where we are before we look forward to getting to that next goal.
According to Harvard psychologist Dan Gilbert, “Happiness is not a destination. It is a method of travel.” In other words, you can be happy no matter where you are in life as long as you take the necessary steps to get there. You can still be happy if you have not yet achieved that lifelong goal that you are aiming for. Be happy with your small wins, progress, and journey, because it means that you are improving and on your way to your success. After all, you wouldn't be where you are if you hadn't made any progress. So don't get discouraged if you're not yet where you want to be; keep working hard and stay focused on your goal. You'll get there eventually!
