I have known my true purpose for a long time. From being physically active from a young age to playing varsity sports in college, it became clear athletics were part of my core identity. As I grew, my spark for knowledge increased. Through undergrad, grad school, and countless certifications, health and wellness not only became a core value but a way of life. Finding CrossFit allowed me to pursue my passion, as both an athlete and a business owner. It introduced a whole new mindset of taking the impossible and making it possible. I have seen countless lives change through increased self-confidence, healthy lifestyles, and the support of the community that comes with being part of True Core. I am blessed with the opportunity to embrace that lifestyle and feel honored to work with our members everyday.

As a lifelong athlete, competing in everything from soccer to Division I pole vaulting at the University of Delaware, competition and fitness have always been a large part of my life. When graduate school hit and I no longer had a team to rely on, my fitness level and passion for exercise quickly deteriorated. After going through the mundane routine of the typical gym for about a year, I was ready to start something new. In 2015, I joined my first CrossFit Box. CrossFit has provided me with a new team and reinvigorated my passion for fitness. As a coach I hope to help everyone find that same passion and camaraderie.

I am a former National League Soccer player and graduated from the University of Bath with a Bsc in Sports Coaching. After hanging up my cleats I was looking to fill a competitive void and CrossFit was that. I love the intensity, constant variation and the progression from athlete to coach was natural. Being able to combine coaching and being part of such a special community like True Core is awesome!

Currently I am the Head Varsity girls soccer coach at St Mary’s in Annapolis. I also work for Maryland United FC Soccer Club leading two different age groups. Running True Core’s athlete conditioning program as been an great addition to my career. Being able to coach an array of athletes with different abilities and ages, is something I love and am extremely grateful to do on a daily basis.

I was introduced to the CrossFit methodology while wrestling in high school. I found through several certification courses and training opportunities that coaching CrossFit was my true passion. I love using this fitness program to help enhance the lives of all the amazing people I am so fortunate to come in contact with.

I joined Crossfit in 2017 and have been hooked ever since. I was on an performance gymnastics team at the University of Maryland and was an avid exerciser. However Crossfit has allowed me to become healthier than ever. I am a physical therapist and have worked extensively with patients with complex medical backgrounds. What I love about Crossfit is the encouraging environment of the gym, the ability to constantly challenge yourself in different ways, and how each and every workout and movement is adaptable depending on your ability and skill level. As a coach and healthcare provider, I am passionate about helping others become physically active as well as making physical activity accessible to anyone and everyone.

My name is Sam Bernstein and I am passionate about getting stronger! I graduated from Lehigh University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2016 and an M. Eng. in Technical Entrepreneurship in 2017. I compete nationally as a powerlifter in the USAPL. I have been fortunate enough to share the platform with the strongest people in the country, and it’s my goal to become one of them some day!

Sharing my passion for strength has presented me with amazing opportunities. During my senior year at Lehigh, I developed and hosted a series of seminars on my college campus instructing students on the basics of form and technique in the squat, bench, deadlift, clean & jerk, and snatch. In addition, I currently coach several powerlifting athletes remotely. I love to talk shop and answer lifting questions, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!

As a former D1 lacrosse player at Lehigh University, I have an ingrained competitive nature. After graduating and having no competitive outlet, I gave Crossfit a try and instantly fell in love. With the wide array of different movements, there is always an area to improve. Whether its making small tweaks in technique or overcoming cardiovascular obstacles, Crossfit has given me so many ways to excel past my previous self.

Crossfit has also allowed me to share my passion for physical and mental wellbeing. With a Bachelor’s in Biology and minors in both Clinical Psychology and Health, Medicine and Society, I have always been interested in not only the biomechanical effects of exercise on the human body but also the psychological effects as well. I truly believe that Crossfit provides the obvious physical benefits but also mental benefits which can be attributed to the amazing community.

I am a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.S. in Kinesiology and a Master’s in Education with a focus in K-12 Physical Education. I have always had a passion for coaching that started with lacrosse and now reaches to CrossFit.

After graduating college it was tough to stay at the fitness level I wanted and after about a year of failing to keep myself motivated and healthy, I was introduced to CrossFit. Since starting, I began to regain my passion for fitness and now I want to share that with every athlete that comes into True Core.

I am a former NCAA (Division I) Field Hockey player who was looking for something to fill the void that competitive sports left when my college career was over. I graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education K-12 and a Masters in Athletic Administration, and I currently teach Physical Education for AACPS. I love CrossFit because it allowed me to be part of a team again, brought back my competitive spirit, and challenged me physically, mentally, and sometimes emotionally. I started coaching in 2012 and haven’t looked back since! More recently, I have been competing as a 58 kg Olympic Weightlifter, and went to my first National Meet in September of 2017.

Since I can remember I’ve loved everything and anything that involves sports and fitness. I graduated from McDaniel College with a B.S in Kinesiology where I also continued my baseball career. Through my teammates and close friends, I was introduced to CrossFit. This took the reins as my new fitness hobby as baseball winded down my senior year. CrossFit has allowed me to better myself both physically and mentally which led me to pursue a career of helping others achieve their own set goals. Outside of CrossFit, I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, USAW – L1, and a Precision Nutrition certified coach. During my free time, I love to hang out with my dogs Kensli B and Juice, snowboard, and enjoying life.”

I’ve always been an athlete; when I was younger, I played softball, track, basketball, and mostly cheerleading and gymnastics. As an adult; a runner, and a triathlete, but it was early 2013 when I was introduced to CrossFit. It didn’t take me long to fall in love with the sport, not just for the methodology, but for the camaraderie, the competitive aspect, and mostly for the feeling of accomplishment. In 2015 I received my CF-L1 training certification and started coaching, and in 2020 I received my CF-L2 certification. For me, coaching has been one of the greatest experiences and I absolutely love it, being a part of someone’s fitness journey is so rewarding! Seeing an athlete accomplish their goals, learn a new skill, and better themself is something I will always cherish. Whether it is your first day or you’re a seasoned athlete, I look forward to helping you strive to be the best version of yourself!

My competitive nature started at the early age of 5 when I began swimming competitively. Through the years I tried have gone through pretty much every competitive sport you can think of including backyard games (which are my favorite). After competing in swimming at Rowan University I was able to keep that competitive drive by becoming a swim coach and also competing in a national competition each year with the team I coached. After an injury took me out for awhile I started to lose that drive to compete and stay fit. After a brief stint at a globo gym and still not feeling that drive, I gave Crossfit a try. This brought back everything. Since then I have competed in powerlifting competitions, Olympic lifting competitions and Crossfit competitions. I have also gone to larger scaled competitions as a judge as well. I am always willing to help so feel free to reach out.

I’ve been coaching youth soccer since my early teens. And on occasion, I’ve been fortunate to work with the same core group for four, five and up to ten year stretches, some from early childhood into late adolescence. Professionally, one of my primary responsibilities for the last fifteen years has been to onboard, train and ‘coach’ new associates and to build teams founded on continuous improvement. Through coaching soccer and my professional career, I’ve been provided an opportunity to share my passion for helping people reach new heights of personal success. Coaching CrossFit is a new, exciting challenge along the same path!

Having long since hanging up my high school soccer cleats, and a few years on from a rash of adult-league soccer injuries/surgeries which forced me into early rec league retirement (Did you know there isn’t a fancy ceremony for this?), I was on the hunt for an athletic outlet. I’d attended typical gyms for years, but they didn’t provide the same mental stimulus as the soccer pitch (shout out to the Brits). So in 2016, with the dream of Grammy Award winning rapper and NBA MVP off the table, I signed up for a six-week trial at my first CrossFit box. I was instantly hooked! One year later I landed in Annapolis, dropped into a Saturday class at True Core and signed up before leaving that day! Three years later, during a class, coach Joanna asked me if I’d ever considered coaching CrossFit and I replied, “Not until just now.” And today I have a CF-L1 training certification and job at True Core with an incredible staff and member community!

I have been a part of the True Core family since day one. Helping our staff paint the walls, assisting in mobility drills, encouraging members with my bark, watching our little TC athletes while mommies work out. I love all the snuggles you can offer, and will always be happy to help you eat your post workout carbs.
