HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY!

I Suck. Now What?

Do you sometimes feel like you’re just not good enough? Like no matter how hard you try, you can’t do anything right and think that you’re destined to be a failure? Many people, especially in the gym, tend to have this kind of feeling, such as when they can’t hit the RX button or when they’ve been injured and they’re not performing as well as they think they should be. People often say, “I suck, now what?” and this can lead to frustration or, in the worst-case scenario, depression, depending on the severity of the situation. As a result, they become unsure of their next steps.

Many feel discouraged because exercise is medicine, both physically and mentally, making us feel better in our bodies. Suppose we cannot do things the way we are accustomed to, the way we expect them to be. We can feel like giving up, hopping back on the couch, binge-watching Netflix with ice cream or chips, and doing the ‘pity-party-poor-me.’

It’s okay to feel that way; feel your feelings for at least a day or two. However, try to keep the mental talk of ‘I suck’ or ‘I am not good enough, out of your head. Don’t let yourself drown in your emotions, as you’ll likely sink more, and it’s even harder to get back on track.

It’s just part of life. The truth is, everyone sucks at something, and that’s okay. You can’t be great at everything, and you don’t have to be. By accepting that you’re not perfect and having the mentality of being willing to learn and improve, you’ll go a long way toward becoming a better person overall.

Instead of letting yourself get eaten up with negative self-talk and self-pity, you can try a new activity that could boost you and just focus on things you can control. You could also reach out to friends, talk to them, or volunteer and be of service to others. That can lift you up and make you realize how fortunate you truly are. Give back, reassess your goals, and dig deeper into your WHYs, and your purpose for why you are doing what you’re doing.

It can be tough when you feel stuck in a rut. But it’s also an opportunity to learn and grow. If you don’t know what to do next, that’s okay – just start by doing something. Take some time for introspection, or talk to someone who might be able to help you figure out your next steps. And most importantly, don’t give up on yourself! We all make mistakes, but as long as you keep learning from them, you’ll continue moving forward.
